Enter to win 'What My Bones Know' by Stephanie Foo, a memoir of healing from complex trauma
A little thank you for being a Foreign Bodies subscriber
I am so excited to reignite Foreign Bodies giveaways with one of my favorite reads of the year: Stephanie Foo’s What My Bones Know: A Memoir of Healing From Complex Trauma, a searing first-person account that digs into the little-understood science behind complex PTSD with humility, humor, and so much love and care. I was lucky to meet Foo when she became a Carter Fellow years ago and it has been an honor to watch this book unfold and garner the praise it so deserves. Entries for this giveaway will be accepted through 8 p.m. EST Friday, Aug. 5.
PSA: This giveaway is open to all sign-ups. Each entry for paying subscribers or those with comps (gifted subscriptions) count TWICE. If you’re interested in subscribing but haven’t yet—click here!
Praise for What My Bones Know
“Many trauma survivors struggle to describe the seemingly indescribable sense of carrying something intangibly sharp—something there but not there—inside. But in What My Bones Know, Stephanie Foo details that and more. Her achingly exquisite memoir takes us on a journey through complex trauma, illuminating her path of self-discovery and providing real hope for those who long to heal.”
—Lori Gottlieb, author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone
“Foo’s journalistic eye serves her generously through a hard-won examination of trauma and its aftermath. I cried while turning the pages; I knew that I was witnessing an astonishing literary endeavor. For others who live with C-PTSD, this is a crucial, life-changing book.”
—Esmé Weijun Wang, author of The Collected Schizophrenias
“Foo’s writing is shrewdly insightful. In telling her story so compellingly, she joins authors such as Anna Qu and Ly Tran in adding nuance to the ‘model minority’ myth, if not actively subverting it. . . . Highly recommended.”
